FAQ.

How can counseling help me?

A number of benefits are available from participating in counseling. Therapists can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, grief, stress management, body image issues, and creative blocks.

Many people also find that counselors can be a tremendous asset to managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the hassles of daily life.

Counselors can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution.

The benefits you obtain from counseling depend on how well you use the process and put into practice what you learn. Some of the benefits available from therapy include:

  • Attaining a better understanding of yourself, your goals and values

  • Developing skills for improving your relationships

  • Finding resolution to the issues or concerns that led you to seek therapy

  • Learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety

  • Managing anger, grief, depression, and other emotional pressures

  • Improving communications and listening skills

  • Changing old behavior patterns and developing new ones

  • Discovering new ways to solve problems in your family or marriage

  • Improving your self-esteem and boosting self-confidence

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Since each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs. Some sessions are therapist driven, proving suggestions to concerns. Other sessions allow for venting and reflection. These aspects can be discussed in more depth during our consultation.

Are your services in-person or virtual?

Due to the current health crisis, Empower You Solutions, LLC is only offering virtual therapy services until further notice.

Do you accept insurance?

Unfortunately at this time we are not accepting any form of insurance. We do foresee it in the future, but in the meantime please visit therapy directories like BetterHelp, Therapy for Black Girls, or Psychology Today to find therapist in your area that accept insurance!

(Note: This information is not meant to replace mental health services, nor is it an endorsement of the content of the sites, or to serve as a comprehensive list.)

If I know you as a friend/family member, can you be my therapist?

Your therapist cannot be a close friend or relative because that would create what's called a “dual relationship”, something that is unethical in therapy. Dual relationships occur when people are in two very different types of relationships at the same time.

Is counseling confidential?

Counseling sessions are confidential and state and local laws protect information that is shared in session. All personal information collected in association with this web site and Simple Practice database will only be used for the purpose of providing for the client a safe, therapeutic experience and it will never be distributed or sold to anyone outside of Empower You Solutions, LLC. Exceptions include suspected incidents of child abuse and neglect, safety, domestic violence, National Security, spouse abuse, homicide, and suicide.

How do I cancel my session?

If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel 24 hours in advance. This can be done via the Secure Client portal link here.

Otherwise, you will be charged a late cancellation fee or a No-Show fee.
